Taylor Hanson Haley – Partner, Civil Litigation

4x5-color-72dpi-web-ready1-240x300Founding Partner Taylor Hanson Haley launched Compass Law Group in May of 2012.  Formerly a partner in the Litigation and Governmental Practice Groups at Gilbert Harrell Sumerford & Martin, Ms. Haley’s practice includes these areas as well as title insurance defense, zoning issues, and real estate development projects.

In creating Compass Law Group, Ms. Haley elevated these practice specialties to a higher touch, boutique firm platform with an additional value-added practice area:  in response to client requests, Ms. Haley, through the General Counsel practice area, serves as outsourced General Counsel for both businesses and families in need of a single point of contact to manage all legal services.

Ms. Haley serves on Georgia’s State Personnel Board (2015-2016), the Georgia State Bar’s Committee on Judicial Procedure and Administration/Uniform Rules (2015-2018), the University of Georgia Law School Alumni Council (2015-2018) and the Southern District of Georgia’s Re-Entry Court. In her early career, Ms. Haley clerked for the Honorable C. Ashley Royal in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.  She is a licensed Georgia attorney and is admitted to practice in all courts in the State of Georgia, as well as the federal district courts in the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts and in the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ms. Haley earned her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law, where she served on the Editorial Board of the University of Georgia Law Review.  She wrote a note entitled, “Psst! Janie’s Got a Gun: Anonymous Tips and Search and Seizure Rights in Schools,” which was published in the journal in fall 2002.  Ms. Haley also assisted in writing an article published in Family Law Quarterly.  Additionally, as a law student, she served in the Family Violence Legal Clinic and Diakonia, a Christian-based legal services clinic for indigent clients.  Ms. Haley was active in the Christian Legal Society and served as the student representative on the Faculty Recruitment Committee.  Ms. Haley received her Bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Samford University in Birmingham, where she majored in journalism and mass communications.

Ms. Haley and husband Reese Haley, a local business owner, have 3 daughters, Cassie May, Celia and Maxine.  They are members of First Baptist Church of Brunswick.  Ms. Haley serves on The Gathering Place Board of Directors, American Cancer Society Victory Board, Hospice Auxiliary, and also volunteers her time with CareNet and other community organizations.  She grew up on St. Simons Island and graduated as valedictorian from Glynn Academy in 1996.
